Jars Of Clay Christmas

Hey internet!

It's finally December! Now I don't feel guilty about posting christmas songs anymore!
I am extremely excited for Christmas and I've been counting down for a while now.

Today I'd like you to hear my favourite songs from the Christmas album Christmas Songs by Jars of Clay.

My absolute favourite is Little Drummer Boy. It's a well-known song, but this version touched me the very first time I heard it, and it still does.

A song that has been written by Jars of Clay themselves is Love Came Down At Christmas and it's a lovely song with beautiful lyrics. The video is also very cute:

I hope you have a wonderful time awaiting Christmas!

Love,
Mia

PS: Check out this Doctor Who Adventure Calendar by the BBC, it's so cool!

Deas Vail

Hey everyone,

For at least an hour now I've been listening to every Deas Vail song I know. I still can't decide which is the one I want all of the internet to listen to.

Every song has it's own way of being perfect and amazing to sing along (if you can get to the extremely high notes).

Yes. High notes. I know that men don't usually write, let alone sing, the higher songs, but somehow I always end up absolutely loving the songs in which they do. This is another case of this weird habit of mine. This guy, called Wesley Blaylock, is a very good singer and his extraordinary notes are never out of tune. There is no better combination of voices than the voice of Wesley combined with Laura Blaylock's.
The band members are christians and their lyrics are based on their faith in God. I have to say it's very poetic and therefore it's not specifically christian music. It's kind of like Switchfoot; it's not praise but the lyrics are deep and very touching.

I have now decided which songs I will post. Have fun!

Sunlight
Sunlight is falling again,
But it never touches us
Because we cover our eyes and cover our fragile skin,
And we are comfortable with this.
How can we hide ourselves like this?
It doesn't seem like we all know where we belong.

Puzzles and Pieces
So stand in a world that seems to be built
On pillars and numbers
Or dance with the hopes of falling in love
Before we have learned to love ourselves

Don't forget to check out the rest if you liked these!

Love,
Mia

Owl City - Tilburg 15/09/2011

Let me tell you, Adam Young is a genius.

On Thursday the fifteenth of September, my sister and I went to Adam´s concert in Tilburg.
I took the train directly from school to Utrecht where my sister had been waiting for me for over an hour. We were both really excited so we didn´t mind all the travelling. We took the train to Tilburg and bought some fries there. There were pianos all over the town due to some kind of festival and while eating our fries we listened to some guy playing a symphony or something. I don´t know what he was playing, but it was fast and very good. We walked to the 013 concert hall and waited for another hour.

At around 7:30 pm the doors opened and we walked in. At the merchandise I bought a blue tee saying ‘All Things Bright And Beautiful – Owl City’ and I love it!
My sis and me

The guy that performed before Owl City was Unicorn Kid. We didn’t expect him to be on his own, but he just stood there, blue-haired, with a laptop and a keyboard. He was so hyperactive that I kept on thinking ‘please don’t fall’ or ‘oh no something is going to happen!’. Luckily all that happened was that he kept knocking over his microphone and standard.

The hyperactive 'Unicorn Kid'

Then Owl City itself came! The show started with fake lightning and a stormy sound. It felt like there was a thunderstorm outside. Owl City came with an entire band. They had drums (which Adam Young himself played aswell as the guitar), violin and cello. Adam played the electric guitar and the girl of whom I keep forgetting the name played keyboard.
Adam Young is a really sweet guy. He kept saying that he was happy to be here (every performer says this, but it still feels like they mean it. They probably do mean it. They are happy to be everywhere. Without us they would be nowhere!). He could actually sing too. It sounded just lovely. With the violin and cello the whole sound was really amazing.
Pictures were made with Ipod Touch, sorry for that

Unfortunately I had to go to school the next morning. We got home at about two in the morning and I had to get up at six. I had to go to school by train from Utrecht, which is an hour's drive. Of course I had to get to the train by bus, which takes about half an hour too.

It was all very exhausting, but I loved it any way. Thanks sis, for the amazing birthday present!

Love, Mia

Flevo Festival 2011

The 18th till the 21st of August my cousin Daniek and her two friends Sanne and Jenneke and me went to the Flevo Festival!

If you don't know what the Flevo Festival is about, the slogan will help you. Faith, Friends and Music. That sort of sums it all up. It's a Christian music festival that lasts 4 days and 3 nights.

Me (with the white hat on, looking funny), Sanne, Jenneke, Daniek. Plus some random people.
Picture belongs to and made by the Xnoizz photographer. We were standing in front of the Xnoizz studio.

I´ve learned a lot during those 4 days. Here’s what I’ve learned:

Fashion tips:
All that I know:
- Wear wellies, they'll keep your 3 pairs of socks warm and dry so you won't get a cold and miss the best performances on Saturday;

- Take an umbrella with you. Or a hat. I wore a hat, which kept my hair dry so I wasn’t as cold at night;
- Believe me. It gets cold at night. Please, please take a nice, warm jumper with you or a lot of coats. Don’t listen to the weather forecast. Just do it;

- Don’t wear tights. You’ll get sand everywhere and that doesn’t feel good. Besides that it’s absolutely fine to wear a skirt without tights.
- Take a handy backpack with you, it will hold everything you need while away from your tent. Just bring something to eat and drink and things like an extra vest or sunglasses or whatever.

Survival tips:
- It will get warm during the day. You don’t want boiled soda, do you? If there’s water near you, you can do two things:
   1)  - take a rope from your tent
        -  tie the rope to the bottle (or bottles)
        - take a tent peg (please note: don’t take the tent peg you’re supposed to use securing your tent, but take a spare peg. Your tent might fly away while you’re not watching and you’ll need the nice neighbours to sleep over)
        -  Pin the peg in the ground after you tied the rope to them and hang the bottles in the water. Make sure no-one steals them.
       - make sure the bottles are in the shade
Or:
  2)  - take a bucket (you can use everything that resembles a bucket but make sure it’s waterproof)
        -  put some water in it
         - put the bottles in the water
        - don’t let the bucket sit in the sun all day

- Make sure you’ve got enough to drink. Take a bottle of water with you for example. If you’re determined to be unhealthy on a festival, just take some coke or whatever with you.

- Be nice to your neighbours, they´ll be nice to you too and they´ll share their food.
- Don't forget to bring some money. You might have brought some food that expires while you're there, and you don't want to cook everyday. If you do forget your money, you can always get back to the previous tip I gave you.

I’ve done more than just learning this stuff of course.
We met a lot of nice people too!
We’ve been chilling out at night with some guys. It was really nice. There were two particular guys who were playing the guitar and singing amazing songs. When I got home I realised that these two guys were actually in a band called Sunday Picknick. Their music is just super cool and we’ve just chilled with them in the middle of the night! I’m so honoured. Click here to check out the website.

Besides these cool guys we’ve seen some other bands as well. On the real stages there on the festival grounds.
